Is your pickup ready for hot weather? Here in Fort Stockton, temperatures can get quite extreme, so use these tips to protect your truck from summer’s worst heat.
Under the Hood
Your cooling system is paramount to keeping your engine
running smoothly in the Texas heat. Have the coolant drained and redone, as
well as other engine fluids topped off. Running the air conditioning in summer
gives your battery a workout, so make sure it’s operating at its full potential.
Consider replacing the battery if it’s an older one.
UV rays heat up your truck’s interior, causing the
upholstery to fade and even cracking your leather seating. Whenever you can,
park in the shade to prevent unnecessary damage. If you can’t do that, get a
sunshade to keep UV rays off the dash and front seats, and install seat covers to
Heat can cause the pressure in your truck’s tires to go
down. Check your tire pressure often to avoid underinflation, which can lead to
blowouts. Meanwhile, the sun’s rays can damage the outside of your truck, too. Consider
a bed liner to protect the bed, and apply a coat of wax to act like sunscreen,
putting a layer between the sun and the paint job.

Nothing feels quite the same as the added sense of power and visibility you get while driving a truck that’s been lifted. Is a truck lift kit right for your vehicle? Here at Amistad Motors, we’ve rounded up some of the pros and cons of adjusting your pickup’s height.
Body lift kits
If you’re just looking for an extra couple inches of ride
height, a body lift kit might be your solution. These kits accomplish the lift
with a spacer that goes between the truck’s body and frame. You’ll get 2 or 3
inches of extra clearance so you can stand out and go off road — but you won’t
have to worry about your ride quality getting rougher. Body lift kits leave
your vehicle’s factory suspension alone and don’t require new shocks. One thing
to be aware of is that a body lift can change the looks of your truck, making
the frame visible through the wheel wells.
Suspension lift kits
Suspension lift kits are quite a bit more involved than body
lift kits. With these kits, you can raise your truck much higher and
accommodate bigger tires if desired. It’s also a way to get more suspension
articulation. However, suspension lift kits require more maintenance, can
reduce your vehicle’s ride quality, and may even void the warranty.
