It’s always a good idea to keep your car clean, but now more than ever, it’s vital that we do everything we can do to reduce the spread of viruses and germs. Follow these tips for sanitizing your car to stay safe and healthy and reduce your risk of infecting others.
Soap and Water
You can use both hand soap and dish soap to clean the inside of your car and it will kill any possible germs. Make sure you scrub the cabin thoroughly and get into crevices where germs may be hiding. Before cleaning, though, confirm that the product you’re using won’t harm any of your vehicle’s surfaces.
Rubbing Alcohol and Disinfectant Wipes
One of the most effective household items you can use to kill germs is rubbing alcohol, as long as the solution is at least 70 percent alcohol. You can use rubbing alcohol with a cloth to clean just about any surface inside your car. You can also use disinfectant wipes if you’re able to obtain some.
Pay special attention to areas like the steering wheel, engine start button, touch screen, and any other areas you find yourself touching frequently. It’s a good idea to clean these spots regularly with one of the above cleaning agents — just make sure they won’t be harmful to any electronic components.
Clean Outside, Too
Don’t skip the exterior! You touch the outside of your car too, especially the door handles, so give them a thorough cleaning. And always use hand sanitizer or wash your hands afterward.
